Invitation to Participate in Our Heart Research Study

Greetings!

My name is Windy Cunningham and I am conducting a research study about Black women, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), stress and cardiovascular disease risk.

I am inviting you to participate in an online research study. The purpose of the research study is to see if there is a connection between Black women’s cardiovascular disease risk, experiences of childhood adversity, and culturally specific stress coping strategies.

This study is open to women who identify as Black, are over the age of 18  and live in the Stroke Belt states of North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia or North Florida.

If you decide to take part in the study, it will take about 10 minutes to complete the online questionnaire. Participation in this research is completely anonymous. No one will be able to identify your answers or link them to you. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and you can stop at any time. Only my advisor and I will have access to the completed survey information.

You can stop if you feel uncomfortable answering any of the questions. Taking the survey may cause you to think of questions or concerns about your own health. If this happens, please contact your usual health care provider, or for information on local resources related to cardiovascular disease risk, contact a Customer Care Representative at the American Heart Association at  1-(800)-242-8721 and for information on local resources related to mental health contact a Helpline Representative at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Helpline at 1-800-950-6264.

There may be no direct benefits to you from taking part in this study. If you agree to be in the study, you will also receive instructions on how to can enter a raffle to receive one of two $50 Visa gift cards.
